eDive Installation Instructions

This page explains how to install the latest version of eDive onto your computer. If you have an earlier version of eDive (5.5 or lower) on your computer then YOU MUST CONTACT US FIRST before you install the new version. If you have version 5.5 or newer then please read through the directions below for your situation. If you have any questions at all please contact us and we will help you through the process.
  • If you have a eDive version 5.5 or newer currently installed then please open eDive and select from the menus; Online->Check for Updates. Or you can click the Downloads link above, download the latest patch and run it.
  • If you have an earlier version of eDive currently installed then please contact us and we will help you upgrade.
  • If you do not have eDive installed yet then please follow the directions below.
    1. Download the installer program from the website. You can visit our Downloads page or click this link (download link) to get the installer. When prompted to Save or Run the downloaded file please select "Save" and save it to your desktop.
    2. Install the new version (you will need Administrator privileges to install the program)
      1. Find the setup program on your desktop that you downloaded from our website.
      2. Double-click on setup.exe to run it. If prompted by Windows User Account Control for permission please select Ok/Yes.
      3. Follow all of the prompts and select Next at each step.
      4. In Windows 7 or higher the program MUST be installed into the folder specified during the install (C:\Users\Public\eDive).
      5. The last part of the install process will install and register the support libraries. These steps may take a minute depending on the speed of your computer so please be patient.
      6. When complete, the installer will place an icon on your desktop for eDive. Once the installation is complete you can delete the setup.exe file from your desktop.
    3. Copy your license file to the eDive directory

Your license file was emailed to you and will come as an attachment called "license.lic". You need to save the license file directly from your email to the eDive folder. There are instructions in the email on how to do that. For Windows XP that folder is c:\program files\edive. For Windows 7 or higher that folder is c:\users\public\edive. You never want to open a license file. The license is an encrypted file that will get corrupted if you open it to view its contents.

It is beyond the scope of this article to provide instructions on how to save an attachment out of an email for every email program out there. For most email programs you can right-click on the attachment and select "Save As", then select the folder to save it to. For the other most common email programs you should be able click on the attachment and select "Download", then select the folder to download it to.

If you have any problems or need help saving your license file out of your email, please contact us and we will help you.

Important Note

The current version of eDive requires the installation of Microsofts .NET Framework version 4.0 or higher. If you are running a version of Windows older than Windows 7 then you will most likely need to install this framework. The framework is available directly from Microsoft by going to the link below. Once installed you can then run eDive. If you are running Windows 7 or newer then you do not need to install this library.

If you already have the newest version of eDive installed you can check to see if you need the framework by opening eDive and selecting Help->About. If the About screen opens up then you have the framework installed and there is nothing further that you need to do. If you receive an error message then you need to install the .NET framework. Here is the link you need for the download from Microsoft:

Please launch eDive when you are done installing and verify that the program loads using your database and your license file. You can open the Help->About window to view your license information. Once eDive loads you can safely delete any extra files that you placed onto your desktop during the installation process.

Please let us know if you have any questions at all. We would be happy to walk you through the process or even set up a time to connect remotely to your computer and do it for you. Visit our contact page for information on how to reach us.
